Current Position on the Ring Road

The latest:-

The Bristol Development Framework - Core Strategy Preferred Options Document, which covers the development of Bristol upto 2026,does refer to phases 1& 2 of the Ring Road (now called South Bristol Link Road ) from the Long Ashton By Pass to Hartcliffe Roundabout but there is no mention of phase 3 from there to Hicks Gate.

As at least some of phase 3 would be in Bristol, although the majority would be in BANES,we have been pursuing clarification with Bristol City Council. We now have an e-mail from the Department of Planning,Transport and Sustainable Development, which advises that "there is no current work being done to advance it (ie phase 3 ) and it is not part of the Council's preferred option for the Core Strategy"
That is a very strong statement that phase 3 will not be built until after 2026 at least.
However phases 1 & 2,which will drive through Highridge,Withywood & Bishopsworth, remain very much on the agenda and later this year more information on the proposals of Bristol City and North Somerset Councils should be available."

"The latest we have been able to establish regarding the Council's plans is that currently detailed analysis of options to establish economic, environmental & other cost and benefits, potential route options and alternatives to road building is underway for phases 1 & 2 (Long Ashton Bypass to Hartcliffe Roundabout). However as far as phase 3 (Hartcliffe Roundabout to Hicks Gate) is concerned the advice is that this is not currently being considered. We are trying to establish exactly what is meant by this."
