About Us
The Alliance against the South Bristol Ring Road comprises residents from Stockwood, Whitchurch and Bishopsworth and members of Bristol Friends of the Earth. We are supported by individual councillors from all parties on Bristol City Council and two local MPs. We are non party political but welcome the involvement of local councillors. We will work with any political party in Bristol, BANES and North Somerset which oppose the construction of the Road.
We oppose
the construction of the South Bristol Ring Road in any location.
We believe
that the money so far set aside and future money to be Allocated to the construction
of this road would be better spent on improving the alternatives to the increased
car use that this road will encourage. We wish to see positive improvements to
the environment of South Bristol rather than community severance, noise, air and
light pollution and destruction of green spaces by a new dual carriageway which
will affect thousands of homes, half a dozen local schools and many other local
amenities.
All our meetings including those of our co-ordinating committee which Meets every month are open to the public. Please contact us for details. We have held meetings in Whitchurch and Stockwood to inform local people and both areas now have an action groups. . Further meetings are planned for Bishopsworth, Highridge, Long Ashton and Ashton Vale.
If you support our campaign, please let us know by joining. We plan to produce a supporters' page including local organisations, so if your organisation opposes the construction of the road, please consider adding it's name to our supporters' page. If you can help in any way with time or funding, we would love to hear from you.
At present, the Alliance has no funds beyond the collections we hold at the end of our meetings. We will be seeking funding from other organisations and our own first fundraising venture will be a bar and barbecue at the end of the Walk and Cycle Ride at the Whitchurch Folk House,
